Warning Signs to Look For

If you are wondering whether or not you have hail or wind damage, call us. If we find damage, we will advise you to contact your insurance company and arrange for an inspection. We will assist you in your claim by meeting with the adjuster and helping maximize the potential for you to get a new roof paid for by your insurance company.

  • Missing Granules – Small amounts of granules will be loose after application of a new roof.  On older shingles, missing granules indicate a need for replacement.
  • Algae – Caused by the growth of air-borne algae which deposits on your roof.  Algae resistant shingles are available.
    Curling – High nails or Lack of back coating; Under-saturation of asphalt felt in organic shingles. Lack of ventilation or Improper number of fasteners.
  • Blisters – Moisture in the shingle.
  • Ceiling Spots – Caused by roof leaks.  Check attic for leaks in decking.  Check all protrusions through the roof (i.e. chimney and vents) for cracks. Check rafters for water spots or leaks.  Check roof for damaged shingles.
  • Rotting – Absorption of moisture by the mat at the core of the shingle.  This is a common problem with organic-based shingles.
  • Damaged Flashing – Improper installation; Drying and cracking. Settling of the structure.
  • Buckling – Wrinkled underlayment.  Roof deck movement.  Poor roof ventilation.  New shingles applied over old shingles.
  • Missing Shingles – Improper fastening. Exposure to high winds.
  • Hail Damage – Difficult to detect. Ca uses missing granules and roof leaks.
